RESUMO

In this review, we investigated the potential mechanism of Total Salvianolic Acid Injection (TSI) in protecting against myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury (MI/RI). To achieve this, we predicted the component targets of TSI using Pharmmapper and identified the disease targets of MI/RI through GeneCards, DisGenNET, and OMIM databases. We constructed protein-protein interaction networks by analyzing the overlapping targets and performed functional enrichment analyses using Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes. Our analysis yielded 90 targets, which were implicated in the potential therapeutic effects of TSI on MI/RI. Seven critical signaling pathways significantly contributed to TSI's protective effects, namely, PI3K signaling, JAK-STAT signaling, Calcium signaling, HIF-1 signaling, Nuclear receptor signaling, Cell Cycle, and Apoptosis. Subsequently, we conducted a comprehensive literature review of these seven key signaling pathways to gain further insights into their role in the TSI-mediated treatment of MI/RI. By establishing these connections, our study lays a solid foundation for future research endeavours to elucidate the molecular mechanisms through which TSI exerts its beneficial effects on MI/RI.

RESUMO

Non-drug therapies of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), including acupuncture, massage, tai chi chuan, and Baduanjin, have emerged as widespread interventions for the treatment of various diseases in clinical practice. In recent years, preliminary studies on the mechanisms of non-drug therapies of TCM have been mostly based on functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) technology. FNIRS is an innovative, non-invasive tool to monitor hemodynamic changes in the cerebral cortex. Our review included clinical research conducted over the last 10 years, establishing fNIRS as a reliable and stable neuroimaging technique. This review explores new applications of this technology in the field of neuroscience. First, we summarize the working principles of fNIRS. We then present preventive research on the use of fNIRS in healthy individuals and therapeutic research on patients undergoing non-drug therapies of TCM. Finally, we emphasize the potential for encouraging future advancements in fNIRS studies to establish a theoretical framework for research in related fields.

BACKGROUND: The World Health Organization has indicated that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may become the third leading cause of death by 2030. Acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD) is an important process in clinical treatment. Recent studies have shown that Chinese medical injections (CMI) are effective against AECOPD, but the effective difference among different CMIs remains unclear. The aim of this network meta-analysis (NMA) is to compare the therapeutic effect of various CMIs. METHODS: We conducted an overall, systematic literature search in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to retrieve randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of CMIs for AECOPD published up to January 2021. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to assess the risk of bias. Stata 13.1 and WinBUGS 14.3 were used for data analyses. RESULTS: In total, 103 RCTs involving 8767 participants and 23 CMIs were included. The results indicated that among all treatments conventional Western medical therapy (WM) plus Dengzhanxixin injection (DZXX) led to the best improvement in the clinical efficacy and the ratio of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) to forced vital capacity (FVC) (FEV1/FVC), with surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA)=80.47% and 98.55%, respectively. Moreover, Shenmai injection (SM) plus WM and Reduning injection (RDN) plus WM led to the best improvement in the FEV1 (SUCRA=80.18%) and the ratio of forced expiratory volume in one second to the predicted value (FEV1%, SUCRA=87.28%). Shengmai injection (SGM) plus WM led to the most considerable shortening in the length of hospital stay (SUCRA=94.70%). Cluster analysis revealed that WM+DZXX had the most favorable response for clinical efficacy and FEV1, as well as clinical efficacy and FEV1/FVC, WM+RDN had the most favorable response for clinical efficacy and FEV1%, WM+SGM had the most favorable response for clinical efficacy and length of hospital stay. CONCLUSION: WM+DZXX, WM+RDN, and WM+SGM were noted to be the optimum treatment regimens for improving in clinical efficacy, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, FEV1% and reducing the hospital stay length of AECOPD patients. Considering the limitations this NMA may have, the current results warrant further verification via additional high-quality studies.

A novel clonal variety of Vitis vinifera was identified from "Chardonnay" using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers and called "bud mutation. " The metabolomic profiles in Chardonnay and bud mutation berries indicated essential differences in the expression of key genes in the pathways of 2-C-methyl-D-erythritol-4-phosphate (MEP) and lipoxygenase-hydroperoxide lyase (LOX-HPL). Bud mutation fruits also matured 10 days earlier than Chardonnay and have higher carotenoid, sugar, and acidic compound contents. Furthermore, the gene expression was examined in the biosynthetic pathways of two ripening-associated hormones, abscisic acid (ABA) and jasmonic acid (JA), which significantly increased in bud mutation compared with the Chardonnay fruit. The synthesis and metabolism of amino acids, terpenes, fatty acids, volatile components, and specialized metabolites significantly increased in bud mutation. Therefore, in comparison with Chardonnay, bud mutation is considered a highly aroma-producing grape variety for an improvement in the beverage industry.

Sunlight conditions around grape clusters vary with their positions, and can have a significant effect on grape berry compounds. This study investigated the influence of cluster positions in the canopy (interior and two exterior canopy sides) and vineyard row orientation (north-south and east-west) on flavonoid and volatile compound profiles of Vitis vinifera L. cvs 'Cabernet franc' (CF) and 'Chardonnay' (CH) berries in two consecutive years. The experimental vineyard was located in Jiaodong Peninsula of China, which is characterized by a temperate monsoon-type climate and relatively short sunlight duration. Clusters located in the interior of the canopy received less sunlight irradiation than the exterior positions, and the average temperature around clusters located in different positions differed slightly. The results showed that over two years, the positions of clusters in the canopy had no consistent impact on cluster weight, berry weight, juice total soluble solids or titratable acidity for either cultivar. For both cultivars, the interior clusters had lower total flavonol concentrations than the exterior clusters, while the position of clusters in the canopy had no major impacts on the composition of anthocyanins and flavan-3-ols. The volatile compounds were somewhat influenced by the positions of clusters in the canopy, while some bound norisoprenoids and terpenoids had lower levels in interior clusters than in exterior clusters. These results will help winegrowers make decisions regarding harvest strategies.

BACKGROUND: Gibberellic acid (GA3 ), a plant-growth regulator, is often used to obtain enlarged table grape berries and induce seedlessness in them. However, the effects of GA3 on rachis elongation and bunch compactness have seldom been reported in wine-grape production. We assessed the effects of GA3 spraying on wine-grape inflorescences and bunches and their practical implications for viticulture in the Jiaodong Peninsula, China. RESULTS: Various GA3 concentrations were sprayed on field-grown Vitis vinifera L. 'Cabernet Franc' (CF) and 'Cabernet Sauvignon' (CS) grapevines before anthesis in the Jiaodong Peninsula, China, in 2015 and 2016. Inflorescence length during berry development was measured, and flavonoids and aroma compounds in the fruit were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) and gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS), respectively. For both cultivars, 50 and 100 mg L-1 GA3 caused significant elongation of the rachis, whereas there was no significant effect on inflorescence growth and berry seed number. Anthocyanin, flavonol, and flavan-3-ol levels in mature berries were not significantly influenced by GA3 spraying, whereas C13 -norisoprenoids were modified. CONCLUSION: The application of 50-100 mg L-1 GA3 prior to grapevine anthesis caused elongation of inflorescences and bunches, and eased cluster compactness in CF and CS, and no negative effects were observed on the yield and seed numbers. The concentration and composition of flavonoids and most aroma compounds were not influenced, except that the norisoprenoids were increased by 50 mg L-1 GA3 applications. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

Most known plant viruses are spread from plant to plant by insect vectors. There is strong evidence that nonpersistently transmitted viruses manipulate the release of plant volatiles to attract insect vectors, thereby promoting virus spread. The mechanisms whereby aphid settling and feeding is altered on plants infected with these viruses, however, are unclear. Here we employed loss-of-function mutations in cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and one of its host plants, tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), to elucidate such mechanisms. We show that, relative to a CMVΔ2b strain with a deletion of the viral suppressor of RNAi 2b protein in CMV, plants infected with wild-type CMV produce higher concentrations of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) H2O2 in plant tissues. Aphids on wild-type CMV-infected plants engage in shorter probes, less phloem feeding, and exhibit other changes, as detected by electrical penetration graphing technology, relative to CMVΔ2b-infected plants. Therefore, the frequency of virus acquisition and the virus load per aphid were greater on CMV-infected plants than on CMVΔ2b-infected plants. Aphids also moved away from initial feeding sites more frequently on wild-type CMV infected versus CMVΔ2b-infected plants. The role of H2O2 in eliciting these effects on aphids was corroborated using healthy plants infused with H2O2 Finally, H2O2 levels were not elevated, and aphid behavior was unchanged, on CMV-infected RbohD-silenced tobacco plants, which are deficient in the induction of ROS production. These results suggest that CMV uses its viral suppressor of RNAi protein to increase plant ROS levels, thereby enhancing its acquisition and transmission by vector insects.
